Some Cool Fire Safety Products I’ve Seen

From time to time I’d like to share with you some of the more interesting fire safety products that I come across during my research for fire safety topics to write about.  I make no endorsements for any of these products—though I do wish that I’d thought of them!—nor do I receive any compensation, legal or illegal, from any of the companies that get mentioned.  From my experiences, these are some products that could help you keep your family safe from the ugly consequences of having a fire in your home.

Want to make your older home safer?  You can start with a wireless smoke detector that has interconnecting capability.  Now your older home can have the same level of alerting—all detectors sound when one detects smoke, giving you and your family faster alerting and more time to escape—as newer homes that have smoke detectors wired in during construction.

Properly testing your smoke detectors each month requires that you test the detection chamber by introducing smoke into the chamber.  Now there comes an environmentally safe product that eliminates the need for you to use a smoldering match to accomplish the test each month.  This smoke detector checking spray can also be paired with a specifically designed handle that allows you to handle the task without the need to climb a ladder in most cases.

Last one, how about an easy to install “firefighter” for the hood vent over your stove or range top?  These hood extinguishment canisters can quickly sense the presence of above normal heat and flame and release the dry chemical extinguishing agent in seconds, thus saving your home from the ravages of a kitchen fire.  I especially like the concept of this product if you have teenagers in your home or you have parents who are getting on in years living alone—or in you home for that matter.  Both of those groups can easily walk away from the kitchen while food is on the stove and things can get out of hand in a hurry.  This product is a good step towards having “someone on duty” in the kitchen at all times.

Remember, I don’t endorse them.  I just find them.
